Background
SEC is a cooperation network consisting of small and medium sized enterprises which have their special field of expertise in metal based industry, mechanical engineering, technical planning and industrial design. SEC is the basis which the cooperation is built on and where the versatile skills of the members speed up the development of new ideas.
Today, there are 18 top quality, entrepreneur driven companies in SEC, located mainly in the southern part of Finland. The cumulative turnover of the members is about EUR 200 million, and they employ some 2.000 individuals. SEC was established in 1993.
All the significant fields of the Finnish industry are represented within SEC's customers. Versatile expertise and capacity of the network enable the members to deliver larger and more complete products and systems. This possibility gives competitive advantage in the prevailing trend where most of the internationally operating customers are decreasing the amount of their subcontractors.
SEC also exists as a production source for the new, developing ideas and especially for larger corporations, which consider to remove parts or sectors of their production to subcontractors to be able to concentrate in their core business.
The activities and goals
The vitality of SEC is based on the prevailing synergy between the members, on the dynamic and flexible cooperation of the 18 companies, and on entrepreneurship, which is guaranteed by cost efficient, entrepreneur driven member companies.
The ultimate goal of SEC is to create added value by means of networking for clients and achieve competitive advantage for the members. The characteristic features of SEC are open communication and exhange of information between the members. It is a lot easier to cooperate when you know your partner, and especially when the partner is representing the same values and ethical principles.
SEC network is utilized not only in marketing, production and engineering, but also in the research and development as well as in the internal development work of the member companies - benchmarking and exchange of ideas and experiences is both open and informal.
There are skills of over 30 special fields represented by the member companies. Case by case these special fields of expertise are utilized to create new, customer oriented products or services. The marketing channels are increased significantly - members represent each other and the network is brought to the forefront by individual members when found relevant. Technological cooperation is considered to be the next step.
In the research and development, the members cooperate on long term basis. Innovative solutions are searched with the partners and the risks of crucial information leaks are minimized.
